Health, aging and Alzheimer's disease
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by extracellular deposits of amyloid-b peptide (Ab) in brain. Ab is generated from the amyloid precursor protein (APP), a large type I transmembrane protein, and is cleaved out by two proteolytic enzymes termed b- and g-secretases. This course provides biochemical overview of the aging of brain, especially in genetic and environmental aspects.
