Profile

Prof. Hachisu's research field includes evolution of supernovae, classical novae, and various binary systems. For example, he worked on the origin of type Ia supernovae, which play an important role in cosmology and galactic chemical evolution, and theoretically found a new evolutionary path to the supernova explosion. He also proposed a comprehensive picture of evolution of nova outbursts, in which he found a universal light curve shape of novae and could explain various features of nova phenomena.

Prof. Hachisu received a Ph.D. in astronomy at the University of Tokyo.
